ok, so Pendulum Hold Your Colour will always be an immortal album. Like someone said to me last night; "It's like Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik, every song is a hit on the whole album and you can listen to them all over and over again" and i fully agree with this. Then they go and put out In Silico. With the release of his I believe we all tollerated it as it was an well hyped and anticipated album from them, but lets be honest, its not Pendulum, and it wasn't really that great!
Now we have Immersion. This album is an obvious follow on from In Silico, and once again has left me wanting Pendulum of old to return from wherever they fc*ked off too. For a band/DJ group to change from DnB to a completely different sound/ genre that is more like a mix of rock, techno, and Cher style voice effects , should have come with a name change for the group.
just my 2c, obviously not impressed and plan to no longer follow Pendulum with the hope of a decent album coming from their corner any time soon.

Waa waa waa. Bands change, grow and develop as they please or as the market demands. As you said, if you don't like it don't listen to it.
But its not "not Pendulum" purely on the basis of "oooh they changed".
Personally I quite like the new album.

You do know that Pendulum started as a rock/metal band? I think ShockOne was a part of it then. Then they went different ways, which happened to DnB. So I guess if anything, it is in a way a return back to their roots. Semi.
I liked their pre-HYC sound. Tracks like Coma and Still Grey. Not a fan of the "live DnB" sound at all.

I won't tell them how to sound, I'll just listen to the older tracks I like... and ShockOne. He's a big deal in Western Australia. Wins all the awards there.

MickH wrote: Well not really. two of the members that formed Pendulum were in a rock band and rightly so, changed their name when they changed thier genre of music So Saying "Pendulum started as a rock/metal band" is really quite incorrect. That would be 2 of the 3 original members were in a rock band. Now there are 6 of the buggers, thats still 1/3 influence of rock musicians. If you take into account they are 2 of the 3 founding members, clearly the influence is going to be rock driven. It may be 'change' but if 2 of their 3 albums are more rock sounding, Its more of a slight swing back to their roots. if anything, the 1st Album was more DnB focused because the threw themselves whole heartedly at something new - when infact a more rock sound is what they prefer. A change in name does not create/imply a genre shift - just that its a different band/group TBH I dont really like the new album either.

But thats the thing. They haven't changed as such, more progressed or developed. Changed is the wrong word, thats all. And I was stumped by that statement for at least 10 minutes. Monday isn't working yet.

oh Pjay, the voice of reason... what a cop out response... and absurd to say the least.
do they still play DnB on their new albums? No
this equals change. Pretty simple concept sunshine.
Progress/Develop would indicate that they have refined or worked on their DnB sound.
if I'm a rugby player, and I start playing cricket, in the eyes of a fan would this be progression or change of codes? use another 10 mins to ponder this
End.

End. Progression - you'd still be a sportsman, just like Pendulum are still musicians (I guess if youwere in the all blacks, and switched to black caps, thats definitely a backwards progression tho, because the black caps are shithouse)

People see him as a rugby player... because he did that most I guess. I know the point you're making, this just came to mind I think their current incarnation is a good live prospect, not so much as DnB "purists".

what if hold your colour was a cop-out and this is what they actually like doing? maybe you're the one labeling them wrong

I guess it is good marketing for them if nothing else... all these heated discussions it is causing ... about as polarising as Mt Edam Failstep.

You don't like Mt Eden dubstep?
Unfortunately I think it is the nature of things. I don't know a single band where I have liked all of their albums (not ones that have produced more than two anyway as per below). Bands always change their sound. Sometimes all their sounds can be good though. Blindspott I think is the closest example for me a change being good though. Some people really didn't like their second album, I loved both however.

This. Blurs last album (I think it was there last) was like this. All these awesome songs/albums, then a shithouse album. So I just choose not to listen to it. I think you also sometimes get bands with a debut album that is AWESOME, then everything else they do is ave or sh!t. And I think it's sometimes to do with the fact a band plays and writes and plays and writes for years to hone there sound before they "make it big", then, bang, record deal comes along. So they put out there best work of the last 5 or more years. Hit! Then the studio says "2nd album!" So the band has to come up with new stuff in a year or two and it's just never as good as the stuff they honed will learning there trade the hard way. But seriously I learnt not to have expectations. You are let down all to often.

I pounded this album for a few weeks after I bought it. Definitely going to their concert on the 27 in Henderson. Anyone else hitting it?
